Nestling in the North Devon countryside, yet within easy reach of the coast, this wing of the main farmhouse makes a perfect retreat. Waytown is approached by a short drive and overlooks the farm - a warm welcome awaits but privacy is assured. Guests are welcome to roam the land and enjoy the seasonal activities on this working sheep and beef farm.
The market town of Barnstaple is just over 3 miles away offering a wealth of shops, pubs and restaurants, and the superb sandy beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton and Croyde are within easy reach offering something to suit even the most discerning guests. Walkers and nature lovers will be in their element with the South-West Coastal Path and Exmoor National Park within an easy drive.
Waytown Farm is on the edge of the village of Shirwell, the farm has been in the family since 1938 after the farm was sold by the Chichester Estate in 1923. The nearby Youlston House is the family home of the round the world yachtsman Sir Francis Chichester, who is buried at St Peters Church in Shirwell.
The farm house dates back to around 1648 and the period features are visible in the oldest part which is where the Cottage is situated, with its thick cob walls, low oak beams and bread oven.
The current "Kingdon" family are the 4th generation to farm here and the main enterprise comprises of beef cattle, sheep and corn. The sheep flock include pedigree texels from which rams are selected for sale each year.
The farm has numerous seasonal jobs that guests young and old can get involved with or just sit back and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of being in a beautiful unspoilt part of the countryside.
